Who Are We?

Our mission is to advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment, in particular by educating the public about how to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle and improve their ability to reduce their negative impact on the environment.

The Role

The independent examiner role is to provide an independent and impartial scrutiny of the charity's annual accounts and financial records to the trustees, ensuring they are accurate, comply with legal requirements and accounting standards (specifically the Charity Statement of Recommended Practice), and maintain public trust and confidence in the charity.

What skills do I need?

For an independent examination, the individual must be independent of the trustees and have the requisite ability and practical experience; a professional qualification, although desirable, is not a strict legal requirement for a small charity.

Knowledge:

• Understanding of auditing standards, charity accounting rules (Charities SORP), and relevant charity law.
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Written and verbal communication skills for reporting and engaging with trustees.
• Objectivity, sound judgment, and an independent mindset.
• Commercial acumen to understand the charity's operations and risks.
