Who are we?

The Horsham District Older Peoples Forum (HDOPF) is an independent, non-political, voluntary group that is free to attend and participate in. It acts as the 'ears' and gives a 'voice' to people aged 60 and over who reside in the Horsham District Council area or care for someone who is.

The Forum exists for anyone to raise issues related to or affect local older people. The Forum holds quarterly public meetings for issues to be raised and discussed, plus guest speakers, currently held at Age UK, Lavinia House, Dukes Square, Denne Road, Horsham RH12 1GZ or supporters can attend via Zoom.

Where possible, we act on issues raised. This could be with local councils, or supporting projects, for example, our mobility scooter user safety training courses.

We act as an information hub and consultative group for anyone seeking the views of older people in the district on plans, topics, or schemes that may affect older people.

The Role

Are you an IT and social media whizz?

Can you help us to reach and engage with older people across the Horsham District?

We require an IT volunteer to help us with our Wix website and to train members of the Forum to be able to make additions, updates and changes to it. We also need support and guidance on the use of social media including Facebook and Twitter (X).

We act as the voice of older people across the Horsham District and want to make our social media and website to be accessible and interactive so that we can reach more people and hear their views.

Horsham District Older People's Forum current website  https://www.hdopforum.org.uk is up and running.

The Forum has Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, and we need help and training to effectively create content that will help us to engage with more local older people and those engaged with them whether as a relative, carer, health professional, support group or charity.

What skills do I need?

You will need to be familiar with website design and maintenance, ideally familiar with Wix websites  - or computer aware enough and willing to self-learn -  to lead the development of the overall design and maintenance of the HDOPF website . - aware of how to best use social media, able to provide support on how to post safely on the website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The website is currently maintained by the Forum Chairman and you would initially be working with him.
