For YMCA Positive Placements
Become a Positive Placements mentor and help a vulnerable young person on their journey towards education, training and employment.
Volunteer mentors are linked with a young person and provide one-to-one support for up to year helping their mentee build their confidence, identify strengths, overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
Volunteers receive training and ongoing support, including peer support with other mentors.
All sorts of people, from all walks of life, are mentors for all sorts of reasons.
One volunteer says, “Some people do it [mentoring] to give something back, but for me the greatest reward is to be part of the process as someone turns their life around and to interact and learn from the young people themselves.”
Project is run from Horsham Y Centre. Mentoring sessions take place in various venues across Horsham District.
No specific formal qualifications are needed, but patience, resilience, empathy and a sense of humour are essential.
Having a criminal record is not necessarily a barrier and each application will be considered on an individual basis.
We’re looking for applicants who are at a reasonably stable point in their lives and who don’t expect any major changes in their circumstances over the next 6 to 12 months.
