Who Are We?

The Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School caters for pupils with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, or complex needs. Our vision is to enable every pupil to discover and develop their potential and have a real pride in their achievements. Through our creative, flexible and relevant curriculum and a wide range of opportunities, pupils develop independence, confidence and self-esteem. Every pupil is supported to go on to live a fulfilled life as a respected member of their community.

The Role

We would like some help creating and maintaining an allotment area in our school. This area would be used to teach students basic gardening skills, learn about healthy choices, and growing our own food.

We would need this area maintained all year round, particularly in the school holidays when the staff and students will not be in school to do it themselves.

Currently the area has a green house, but the door requires some small repairs. We have various planters that may be utilised, and may also need some raised beds making. Or if we can get some made, we will need them cultivating so they are suitable to plant in.

The area will need some cutting back and caring for as well as it has become neglected as it has not been used for a while.

We would ideally like a small team of volunteers so that the bulk of the work does not fall to one volunteer.

As part of this role, there may be the opportunity to come alongside the students as they learn about maintaining the allotment, where you can share your skills and knowledge of gardening / DIY with them.

We welcome and encourage flexible volunteering, but please note that during school term time, volunteers will need to be available during the school day.

Please note that you will need to be willing to have a DBS check done for this role.
