Our Visiting Service is a free service for those who are lonely, isolated and vulnerable. A volunteer is carefully matched to provide friendly companionship and support, offering a lifeline to the outside world.

Tasks within this role can be wide and varied. Typical tasks can include one or many of the following:

Emotional support in the form of listening, conversation, encouragement and reassurance
Escorted walks
Engaging in local activities
Providing information on other services that may be required

What skills do I need?

Personal Qualities

Empathy and understanding of issues facing older people
Patience and sensitivity
Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with those hard of hearing or other sensory impairments

• Have excellent communication and team working skills
• Have the desire to find out more about the work of Age UK Horsham District
• Have flexibility and the willingness to volunteer
• Keep up-to-date with the work of Age UK Horsham District to represent the charity in a professional manner

We would appreciate any time you are able to offer. If you are able to commit to regular hours (such as 2 hours per week) we would be delighted to discuss ongoing projects that might interest you, including administrative support.
