Who Are We?

We’re a local charity with a big ambition: to help everyone face death informed, supported and pain free. Providing expert hospice care, we’re there for people in West Sussex and East Surrey when life comes full circle.

We also pioneer standards in end of life care through collaboration, research and training, reaching even more people facing death and bereavement.

The Role:

Are you a confident 4x4 driver looking for a meaningful way to help others? Join us as a Volunteer 4x4 Driver and play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive expert end-of-life care—no matter the weather.

In times of extreme conditions, we rely on volunteers like you to safely transport our dedicated staff to and from the hospice, helping them reach those who need them most. Your support ensures continuity of care when it matters most.

You’ll use your own well-maintained 4x4 vehicle and must be comfortable driving in challenging conditions. This is a flexible, on-call role during adverse weather events.

Why we want you:

Do you want an incredibly rewarding role helping patients receive our expert care?

We need volunteers who drive 4x4 vehicles who can help us during extreme weather conditions to help get our staff members to our hospice to deliver expert end of life care to our patients.

What you will be doing:

Safely transport staff to and from their homes to the hospice in the event of bad weather. Maintaining your own vehicles to the standard required by current legislation.

What's in it for you:

Satisfaction of helping St Catherine’s Hospice to support local people and their loved ones when its needed most. Full training and support throughout your role. Travel expenses reimbursed. A chance to boost your CV, including a reference.

Disclaimer: You will be expected to complete some training that is relevant to your role. This may be delivered as a combination of face-to-face sessions as well as some e-learning.
